A plump, cartoon turkey dominates this vintage holiday card, its feathers fanned in bright, decorative color, a motif that became a staple of American Thanksgiving imagery in the early twentieth century. Postcards like this one were mass-produced and mailed in large numbers, especially between about 1900 and the 1930s, when the picture postcard was a cheap and popular way to send seasonal greetings. Printers often used embossed borders, gilt accents and rich inks to make these cards feel festive, and the turkey, which was closely tied to the harvest and family feasts, gave illustrators a cheerful symbol to repeat across countless designs.
