Harris, the Washington Senators' manager, sits on the dugout steps signing scorecards for fans at a Ladies Day game in September 1925. Ladies Day promotions, which admitted women free or at reduced prices on designated days, were a common way for ballclubs to draw crowds in the 1920s. The Senators were in the thick of the American League pennant race that season and went on to win the pennant, the first in the franchise's history. The National Photo Company, which documented Washington life for decades, made the picture as part of its large body of local news photography.
