The Clubs Baby is credited to Lawrence Sterner and Edward G. Knoblaugh, and this color lithograph stands more than two meters tall, large enough to catch the eye from across a street. It was printed by the Strobridge Litho Co. of Cincinnati and New York for the producer Jacob Litt. In the 1890s, Strobridge was one of the largest American firms making color posters for touring and New York stage productions, and chromolithography turned theatrical advertising into a bright, public art form. The poster also carries a U.S. Copyright Office registration from 1899, which marks it as a protected commercial work.
