Billed as "the pioneer mentalist," Newmann promised a "marvelous show of wonders" in this 1928 color lithograph, which the record credits to C. A. George Newmann. Mind-reading and other mental feats were a staple of vaudeville and touring theater in the 1920s, and posters like this one were printed in quantity and pasted on billboards and shop fronts ahead of a performer's arrival. Its large format, 72 by 54 centimeters, and bold display lettering show the flashy promotion typical of the period. A slightly smaller version also survives, and the sheet is part of the McManus-Young Collection at the Library of Congress.
