Bertie Fowler's name in the caption of this 1900 lithograph points to the act at the center of the advertisement for *The Orpheum Show*, a vaudeville bill from the Orpheum circuit, which was then expanding across the western United States. Martin Beck, credited as direction, was the booker who helped build that circuit into one of the largest variety networks in the country. The poster was printed in black and white by Russell-Morgan of Cincinnati and New York for the U.S. Printing Company, and its large format shows how theater advertising of the era relied on bold lithography to draw crowds to a single week's bill.
