Two neat rows of automobiles stand behind the Navy Building in Washington, with the Washington Monument and the dome of the Capitol rising in the distance. The photograph is credited to Underwood & Underwood, a firm with offices in Washington and New York known for press and stereo views, and its caption dates it to September 12, 1925, though that date comes from an older, unverified card. By the mid-1920s, automobiles were crowding into the capital's government district, and pictures like this one show how the city's landmarks shared space with that change.
