Text alone carries this color lithograph, which urges men to "enlist voluntarily now" rather than wait for March 2, 1916, the date the Military Service Act took effect. That act, passed in January 1916, was Britain's first conscription law and required single men of military age to serve, so the poster was an appeal to keep recruitment voluntary before compulsion applied. The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee issued it, and the Abbey Press in Westminster printed it. It is numbered 154 in its series, and its plain wording reflects the wartime effort to fill the ranks through persuasion before the state required service.
