Hambletonian was a bay horse foaled in 1849, sired by Abdullah and out of a mare recorded as "The Charles Kent Mare." He became one of the most influential trotting sires in America, and many of his offspring shaped harness racing in the decades that followed. This photogravure, dated around 1892 and copyrighted by Schreiber & Sons, reflects the late nineteenth-century taste for printed horse portraits among owners and fans of the sport. The record is based on old caption data that has not been verified, so the date and attribution are best read as approximate.
