Few pictures show the inside of a private yacht as plainly as this one, which records a dining room aboard the Glenmar, a vessel tied to aviation builder Glenn L. Martin. Martin founded the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, whose factory produced bombers and flying boats, including the China Clipper that carried passengers across the Pacific in the late 1930s. Held among the Martin papers, the photograph offers a glimpse of how a prominent industrialist furnished his leisure time just before the United States entered the Second World War. The date is only an estimate, so the exact year is worth confirming against other sources.
