Sabana Grande, a town in Puerto Rico's interior, appears here with people going about their business on its street. Strohmeyer & Wyman of New York issued the stereograph around 1900, and viewed through a stereoscope, its paired photographs gave the scene a convincing sense of depth. The card dates from just after the United States took control of the island in 1898, when American publishers were eager to show the territory's towns to home audiences. Notice the figures and the street for a glimpse of everyday life in a small inland community.
