The dock at Tampa, Florida, shown here on the day troops set sail for Santiago de Cuba, captures a moment of embarkation during the Spanish-American War. In the summer of 1898, Tampa served as a major staging point for the U.S. Army expedition bound for Santiago, and its wharves were crowded with soldiers, supplies, and transport ships. Strohmeyer & Wyman, a New York firm, published this stereograph around 1898 for home viewers who used stereo cards to see wartime scenes in three dimensions.
