Kumagai Naozane and the young Taira warrior Atsumori are the focus of this print, with Nasu no Yoichi, the archer who shot a fan from a pole at Yashima, named alongside them in the title. The sheet comes from *Dainihonshi ryaku zue*, or *Abbreviated Pictures of the History of Japan*, a series issued in 1885 that retold older warrior tales in compact color woodcuts. Atsumori's death at Ichi-no-tani in 1184, and Naozane's later vow to become a monk, made this encounter one of the most remembered episodes of the *Heike monogatari*.
