Drawn from the foot of J Street, this panorama looks across the blocks between I and K streets, where the grid of Sacramento meets the riverfront. The city grew rapidly after gold was discovered in the Sierra foothills in 1848, and the Sacramento River landing became a key supply point for miners heading inland. George Victor Cooper is named as the artist, with Charles Parsons also credited, and the map is worth studying for how the street plan was set against the water in the town's earliest years.
