This panoramic view was made from the Statue of Liberty, looking across the harbor where the Hudson and East Rivers meet and ferries and steamboats work the water. The Detroit Photographic Company, which later became the Detroit Publishing Company, sold views like this to a wide public, and the record labels it "part 2," so it was likely one section of a longer panorama. Dating from about 1901, it shows a working port just after the statue, dedicated in 1886, had become a major landmark. The long format and cyanotype process give the scene its distinctive blue tones.
