Shot from the Statue of Liberty, this panorama looks out over New York Harbor, with its rivers and working boats spread across the water toward the city. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued many views of American cities and landscapes around 1900, produced it as a cyanotype, a process that gives the image its distinctive blue-toned coloring. The statue, dedicated in 1886 as a gift from France, had become one of the best-known vantage points in the city by this time. Mounting the print on linen made it sturdier for handling and display.
