The poster advertises *High Tor*, the 1937 fantasy comedy that won the New York Drama Critics' Circle award as the season's best play. Maxwell Anderson's story follows a Hudson Valley mountaineer who refuses to sell his land to developers and is visited by the ghosts of old Dutch sailors. This California production was staged under the Federal theater Project, the Works Progress Administration program that put unemployed theater workers on stage across the country. The silkscreen color process was a common method of the WPA poster division, which used it to make eye-catching notices on small budgets.
