Few details survive about this exact spot. The record gives only the street address, 2100 First Street Northwest, and a date of 1919 or 1920. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial firm that photographed Washington's streets and buildings in the early twentieth century and sold the views as prints. Glass negatives like this one were used to make prints in quantity, which is why so many survive as a record of ordinary city blocks. Herbert A. French gave this example in 1947, and the streaks noted in the record are typical of glass coatings that have deteriorated over time.
