Cattolica is a small resort town on the Adriatic coast of Emilia-Romagna, and this color lithograph sells it as a place to swim, sail, and spend a summer by the water. It was printed in Rome by A. Marzi sometime between 1920 and 1930, when Italian seaside towns were promoting themselves more actively to holidaymakers, both domestic and foreign. Posters of this kind relied on bold flat color and simple shapes so they could be read quickly from a railway platform or a street wall. The beach and boat scenes in the design reflect the leisure culture that was growing along the Adriatic in those years.
