The poster promotes a touring production of *Uncle Toms Cabin* that traveled to large cities aboard its own specially built train, a detail that sets it apart from ordinary theater bills. Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel had by then been adapted for the stage in many versions, and in the late 1800s rival companies toured the country with the story, often drawing audiences who came to see it as much for its spectacle as its drama. The lithograph was printed in 1900 by the Russell-Morgan Print Company of Cincinnati and New York, and it is made entirely of text, with bold display type and no pictorial scene, relying on the sheer scale of its wording to attract attention.
