A panoramic gelatin silver print, 50 inches long, shows a line of bathing beauties on Balboa Island in California. M. F. Weaver of Los Angeles registered the photograph for copyright in September 1925, and the deposit copy is preserved with the record. Beach-town parades of this kind were a common publicity device in Southern California during the mid-1920s, when resort promoters used women in bathing suits to draw crowds to the shore. The heavy knitted wool suits of the period cover far more of the body than modern swimwear does.
