Its title, *Der Deutsche Student, Kampf für Führer und Volk* ("The German Student, Struggle for Leader and People"), states the poster's purpose: it addresses students as participants in a political struggle. Ludwig Hohlwein, a leading German poster designer of the interwar years, made this chromolithograph, and the record dates it to the 1930s, though that date comes from an unverified caption card. Posters like this appeared as German student groups were being brought into the National Socialist movement, and they show how the regime used bold color and simplified imagery to mobilize young people.
