Few details survive in the record for this floor plan of a house in Washington, D.C., drawn in ink and colored with watercolor on paper. The sheet lays out the rooms, walls, doorways and window openings of a single residence, showing how the house was meant to be arranged floor by floor. Watercolor washes were a common finishing touch on presentation drawings made by architects and builders in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the Library of Congress holds drawings of this kind in its Architecture, Design and Engineering collection.
