Cape Henry, at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, is one of the most historically significant coastal sites on the Atlantic, and this view pairs its lighthouse with a wireless station set among the low dunes and scrub of the surrounding moors. The lighthouse was among the first public works projects undertaken by the federal government after the Constitution took effect, and it guided ships into one of the busiest harbor approaches on the East Coast. The pairing of an old navigational landmark with the newer technology of wireless telegraphy is what makes the scene worth a closer look. The record gives no date, and its title is unverified, so the exact year is uncertain.
