A candy seller at the Norway Railroad Station is the focus here, a small commercial scene typical of busy depot platforms, where vendors sold sweets and snacks to travelers waiting for trains. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, the body of work assembled by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The title came from caption cards and negative data that the agency recorded and that have not been independently verified, so the exact town and date remain uncertain. The nitrate base was common in that era but chemically unstable, which is one reason such negatives required careful handling and storage.
