The Baltimore and Ohio's depot at New Jersey Avenue and C Street, N.W., was one of the main points of rail arrival in Washington for more than three decades. This view shows it in its last years, as the city's rail traffic was already shifting toward a new central terminal. Union Station opened in 1907 and brought the major railroads under one roof, so the older depot was taken down soon after. The photograph is a useful record of a building that disappeared as the capital's rail hub moved.
