The poster's headline, "The old reliable McFaddens flats everything new," promotes a touring production of *McFadden's Flats*, a comic stage show that was popular on the American road in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Its color lithography is typical of the period, when theatrical advertising relied on large, multicolor sheets printed in quantity and pasted up in towns ahead of a company's arrival. The printer, the Russell-Morgan Print Company of Cincinnati and New York, was one of the firms that produced many of these posters, and the caption "I want to be an angel," with its catalog number, identifies the design as one of its stock pieces.
