Minor Cooper Keith is the subject of this glass negative, one of the portraits in the Bain News Service files. Keith was an American railroad builder who laid much of Costa Rica's rail network in the 1870s and 1880s, then helped form the United Fruit Company in 1899, which grew into one of the largest banana businesses in the Americas. The record gives no date, and the name comes from Bain caption cards that have not been independently verified, so the picture is best read as a press portrait of a well-known businessman of the early twentieth century.
