Few details survive for this glass negative, which the Bain News Service titled Commission at British Embassy, and no date is recorded. The agency, run by George Grantham Bain in New York in the early twentieth century, sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines, so pictures of diplomatic occasions were made to be published quickly with short captions. Because the title comes from the agency's own unverified notes, the specific commission and the people involved remain uncertain, but the picture still shows how embassy events were recorded for the press in that period.
