Titled simply "The drug clerk," this photograph shows a figure working in a pharmacy, a setting that by the early 1920s was both a place to fill prescriptions and a neighborhood gathering spot with soda fountains and sundries. The record dates it to about 1923 and notes that the caption card is tagged "Pharm.," which points to the pharmacy trade rather than a specific shop. Those years fell within Prohibition, when drugstores were among the few legal sources of medicinal liquor, so the clerk's daily work carried more public weight than usual. The record offers few details beyond this, so the picture is best read as a glimpse of everyday commercial life in that period.
