This picture records an exhibition held in the Tonhalle, the concert hall in Zurich, that showed work made by German soldiers interned in Switzerland during the First World War. Switzerland stayed neutral and took in sick and wounded prisoners from both sides, who were held under internment rules that gave them some freedom to work and make things. The show, dated 1918, is a rare glimpse of how these men presented their own work to a Swiss public near the end of the war.
