Marc Antonio Raimondi, the Italian engraver, is the subject here, and his reputation rests on reproducing the designs of Raphael and other painters in prints that circulated across Europe. The record credits the plate to W. Holl, a British engraver who likely worked in the early nineteenth century and was known for portrait work, so this was probably made centuries after Raimondi's active years in Bologna, Venice, and Rome. The caption card records no date, so the year of this plate remains uncertain.
