Fifth Avenue is billed here as "the world's greatest shopping street," and the Empire State Building, finished in 1931 and still new when this poster appeared, rises above the avenue as the feature that sets the scene apart. The 1932 poster was printed by Latham Lithograph & Printing Co. in Long Island City, New York, and it urges visitors to reach the city by train. It was made during the Great Depression, when railroads and city boosters often used bold color posters like this one to lure travelers and shoppers back to New York.
