Four members of Franklin D. Roosevelt's family appear together in this 1950 group portrait: Eleanor Roosevelt, her sons Elliott and James, and Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. The Acme wire-service print is titled "Return of the Roosevelts," though the record does not say where the family was returning from. By 1950 Eleanor was well known for her work on human rights, and she had served as a United States delegate to the United Nations. Although this gallery board centers on Theodore Roosevelt, these relatives belong to the branch descended from his fifth cousin Franklin, which makes the picture a useful look at the family's later public life.
