Bain News Service, the New York agency whose glass negatives make up the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, made this picture, and its title, "Business Men at Roosevelts," comes from the agency's own notes, which the Library has not verified. The title points to a meeting between a group of businessmen and a member of the Roosevelt family, and the gallery's Theodore Roosevelt grouping suggests the visit may relate to his presidency, which ran from 1901 to 1909. Bain's photographers worked in Washington and New York during those years, covering officials, executives, and public events. Because the record gives no date, the exact occasion is uncertain, but the picture still shows how press photographers recorded the business and political figures of the period.
