A woman in winter dress on wheeled skates anchors this chromolithograph, whose title, *Patin-bicyclette*, joins the French words for skate and bicycle. The poster is signed "PAL," the signature of the artist Jean de Paléologue, and was printed by Paul Dupont, one of Paris's leading poster printers of the 1890s. Its subjects reflect the roller-skating vogue of the late 1800s, when skating drew crowds to rinks and fashionable streets. The print is a useful record of urban leisure and of the bright, graphic style of French advertising art at the time.
