Few bicycle posters of the 1890s pair a product name with a Native American subject quite like this one, which advertises the Cleveland wheel, an American-made bicycle sold widely in the period. The lithograph was printed in Paris by Paul Dupont, one of the city's leading print houses, and is credited to the artist "Pal." Bicycle advertising boomed across France and Europe in those years, and illustrators often drew on exotic or stereotyped figures to make a product seem fashionable. The Library of Congress included the poster in a resource guide on Indian and Alaska Native peoples, where it is useful as an example of how such figures were used in commercial imagery.
