A slogan does most of the work here: "Humber Cycles, Not Cheap but Good" openly concedes the price and argues that quality justified it. Humber was an English bicycle maker, and its machines were sold in the United States during the 1890s, when cycling was booming among city workers and middle-class riders. This color lithograph was printed by Liebler & Maass, a New York firm known for commercial posters of the period. The date "189-" comes from an unverified caption card, so the 1890s is the best working estimate.
