Four photographic prints mounted together reproduce the patent plans for the Wright brothers' flying machine, drawings of the design Wilbur and Orville Wright had protected in the United States. The brothers received their patent for a wing-warping, pilot-controlled aircraft in 1906, and by 1908 they were demonstrating it publicly in France and at Fort Myer, Virginia, drawing wide press attention. Bain News Service, a New York news photo agency, made these copies, so the set shows how the brothers' engineering was presented to newspaper readers at the time.
