The slogan "Where the Americas meet" sets this Puerto Rico poster apart, presenting the island as a crossroads between North and South America and the Caribbean. The Federal Art Project produced silkscreen posters like this one during the 1930s, when the government employed artists to create public-facing work, including promotion for tourism. Puerto Rico had been a U.S. territory since 1898, and the island was actively drawing visitors at the time. A date stamp on the back, July 18, 1940, shows the board stayed in circulation for several years after it was made.
