The only identifying detail for this negative is its title, O.D. Holmes, which the National Photo Company wrote on the glass or its sleeve, though the Library of Congress notes that the title has not been verified. The 4 by 5 inch glass negative dates to about 1920 and belongs to a large body of work the company produced in Washington, D.C., across the early twentieth century. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library in 1947, and the streaks and blemishes on its surface come from natural deterioration of the original coatings.
