The poster's three-part appeal, "Men, munitions, money," sets it apart from other wartime prints by asking each viewer to name his own share of the war effort. Canada had entered the First World War as a Dominion of the British Empire in August 1914, and through 1915 the country relied on voluntary enlistment to fill the Canadian Expeditionary Force while factories expanded shell and rifle production and the government raised money for the war. Posters like this one addressed civilians who could not serve in uniform, urging them to support the troops through factory work or by lending money to the state. The closing question, "Which are you supplying?", turns a national appeal into a personal accounting.
