Posed in January 1927, this group portrait shows the instructors of the School for Bakers and Cooks at Fort Sam Houston, an Army post on the northeast side of San Antonio, Texas. The school operated under the Army Quartermaster Corps, which was responsible for feeding troops, and it trained enlisted men to prepare bread, pastries and meals for garrisons in the field and at posts. The photograph was made by the San Antonio Photo Service, a commercial studio, and its caption data comes from an old card whose details have not been fully verified.
