Drawn from a high oblique angle, this 1891 bird's-eye view shows Greensboro as a town that had grown around its railroads and commercial streets in the North Carolina Piedmont. Ruger and Stoner produced the drawing, and Burleigh lithographers printed it, using the detailed panoramic style that was popular for American towns in the 1880s and 1890s. Greensboro was the seat of Guilford County and a growing center of trade, with industry expanding in these years. The Guilford Courthouse battlefield, where a Revolutionary War clash took place in 1781, lies just outside the city.
