This glass negative shows the soprano Gadski posing with her daughter. The title comes from Bain News Service data that has not been verified, and the record gives no date. Gadski, a German-born singer, was one of the leading Wagnerian sopranos at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the early twentieth century, so the portrait reflects the public interest that performers' family lives drew at the time. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, produced many celebrity portraits for newspapers, and the large glass plate gives the image its fine detail. Because the date and the sitters' identities are not confirmed, the caption should be read as provisional.
