Tacoma's waterfront, seen from above, shows the harbor that made the city a major Pacific Northwest port after the Northern Pacific Railway chose it as its western terminus in 1883. This stereograph, made around 1906, was produced by C.L. Wasson for the International Stereograph Co. and was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which gave the scene a sense of depth. Its caption calls the city "a leading city in the great Northwest," language typical of the boosterism of the period. The record's details come from the caption card and have not been independently verified.
