This photograph shows President Warren G. Harding and First Lady Florence Harding on a reviewing stand in Washington, D.C., watching a parade of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, the fraternal organization known as the Shriners. General John J. Pershing, then Army Chief of Staff, is also among those on the stand. The picture dates from 1923, the year Harding died in August, so it captures one of his last public appearances. Reviewing stands like this one were a common way for presidents to show support for civic and fraternal groups marching in the capital.
