The poster promotes the Federal theater Project's staging of Eugene O'Neill's *Ah, Wilderness!* at the Playhouse on Tulane and Miro Streets. O'Neill's 1933 comedy looks back warmly at a small-town family's Fourth of July in 1906. The Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, employed actors, designers and stagehands during the Depression, and its posters were often made by artists working for the program. This silkscreen print from 1936 uses bold flat color to draw attention to the production. It is a useful reminder that the nostalgia of O'Neill's play was staged during an economic crisis that put many theater workers out of work.
