Its slogan asks whether the reader will help crush tyranny while defending the precious jewel of liberty, and this copy carries an English version of a French-language appeal, which points to a bilingual audience in Canada. Canada entered the war in August 1914 with Britain's declaration, and volunteer enlistment for the Canadian Expeditionary Force began within weeks. Posters like this one leaned on ideals of freedom and the defeat of an aggressor to turn a distant conflict into a personal duty.
