Its title, "Recruits wanted ... fall in boys!", makes a direct appeal to men to join the Canadian Army, and this 1914 color lithograph is a clear example of that wartime recruiting. Canada entered the First World War in August 1914, and until conscription was introduced in 1917, the Canadian Expeditionary Force was raised entirely through voluntary enlistment, so posters like this one carried much of the recruiting effort. The record also lists a United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation sponsor, which is unexpected for a Canadian Army subject and is worth checking against the original source.
