Rather than a straightforward view of the falls, this color halftone served as the cover of a viewbook called *Niagara Falls, Nature's Throne*, published in Denver around 1907 by the Williamson-Haffner Company. Its subject headings point to Native American figures and a legend of sacrifice at the cataract, a story that tourist publications of the period often used to give Niagara a dramatic human past. Because the print reproduces a painting, it also shows how publishers marketed the falls to a national audience through romantic imagery as well as scenery.
